Illinois Republicans sue to throw out ‘rigged’ election maps

Illinois republican lawmakers have asked the state’s Supreme Court to throw out the current legislative map that they claim favors Democrats in elections.

House Minority Leader Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) and Rep. Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) and Rep. Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) filed a lawsuit on Tuesday asking the Illinois Supreme Court to throw out the current map, which was enacted in 2021.

“Illinois’ State House District Maps are the byproduct of extreme partisan gerrymandering,” Leader McCombie said. “They are drawn by the political party in control and intended to entrench the Democratic Party in power and prevent voters of the minority party from electing candidates of their choice. The general election outcomes are rigged.” Read the story by John Clark on My Stateline.
